Flodesk Pricing, Explained

Email marketing is how you convert your cold social media audience into warm leads. It’s so important that it’s the second pillar of the Coin & Copy Constant Cultivation process. The foundation of a customer converting email marketing strategy is the platform you use. The Coin & Copy fan favorite is Flodesk.

We use Flodesk primarily because of how easy it is for our customers to run their own email marketing campaigns. There’s no complicated coding, no bloated features that you won’t use (but pay premium for anyway) and most of all, it’s easy to understand.

One of the reasons businesses decide not to use email marketing is because they don’t understand what their paying for with their email software. Today, we’re answering questions about Flodesk’s pricing and features.

[FREE RESOURCE]: Make sales in your emails.

Is Flodesk Really Only $19

We’ve been conditioned to believe that expensive is better. That’s not always true, especially with Flodesk. Flodesk is an email marketing software that helps you create pretty, functional emails with no code. There’s nothing at all complicated about their software and you can create a simple email in the same amount of time it takes you to brew tea in the morning. Flodesk really was $19/month until they came out of beta.

Flodesk Beta Pricing

A beta of a software is a pre-release version meant to be used by real people to test functionality under real conditions. Because Flodesk was still testing the basic functions of their software, they offered a basic version until they were confident that it would work once a large volume of people used the software. This is why their beta program pricing was $19/month for the lifetime of your account.

Flodesk came out of beta in November of 2021 and now anyone that wants to use their software will pay full price, $38/month. But there are still ways to cut that cost in half.

Flodesk Discount Code

Now that Flodesk is officially out of beta, new users will pay the full price of $38/month. However, when compared to the cost of ClickFunnels and Mailchimp, it’s a steal. If you’re ready to get your own Flodesk account, use my code ”COINCOPY” or click this link. This is an affiliate link so I do get paid when you click the link. But don’t worry, I wouldn’t recommend this software if I didn’t use it myself. I have tutorials in this blog and in my Facebook group to teach anyone to use it,.

Free v. Paid

A lot of people ask if Flodesk has a free version and I want to answer clearly: Flodesk does not have a free tier of service. However they do offer a free 30 day trial of their software. That’s long enough to starting switching a list over to Flodesk or long enough to start building a list from scratch. Whichever case applies to you, I recommend you get my Email Marketing Basics Guide. It’s an easy-to-read-and-apply method to brainstorming a lead magnet and growing an email list.

Flodesk Pricing Plans

Everything about Flodesk is nice and simple, even their pricing. Flodesk has one tier of pricing with the option to pay annually or monthly.

How much is Flodesk a month?
Monthly
$38
How much is Flodesk a year?
Annually
$418

Did I forget to mention that you get one month free when you opt to pay annually? Also, use the code COINCOPY to get half off your first year. Bring that $418 down to half its size!

Flodesk v. The Competition

Curious how Flodesk stands up to its competition? I would be too. Every business should think carefully before investing in any email software. It’s not just about savings and costs, its migrations, learning new software, paying for un-needed features and understanding how to use what’s in front of you. One thing to remember is that most of Flodesk’s competition aren’t strictly email marketing softwares. Some of them are CRMs (Customer Relationship Management) or All-in-one marketing automation tools in disguise. This leads to you paying more for features that you don’t need or for features duplicated in other software you already use.

Let’s compare.

Flodesk

Flodesk is great for businesses that are handling their email marketing in-house without an email marketing expert. That’s why I use it for my clients. It’s easy to turn over to them after our project and I can be confident that they won’t be overwhelmed with features after our project is complete. Flodesk is solely an email marketing software so you get list management, easy workflows, and easy to install email forms.

Pros

  • No growth penalty. A major plus for Flodesk is that it doesn’t penalize you for growing your list. Most platforms have a free tier when your list is small but the second you go 1 subscriber over, the fees start building. And they build fast. With Flodesk you get unlimited subscribers.

  • Beautiful, pre-designed templates.

  • Instagram integration

  • Shopify integration

Cons

  • No public API. An API is how other companies integrate software with other systems. While Flodesk doesn’t have a public API, most people get around this by using Zapier.

Flodesk V. MailChimp

Mailchimp is a best all-around email-centered marketing platform. It does almost everything from SMS marketing, social campaigns and managing customer relationships. This app does more than just send emails so it’s a little pricier. If you need something to manage your customer relationships, send emails, and push ads then try MailChimp.

Pros

  • Tons of Integrations. Mailchimp has been around for awhile and has a public API. This means they integrate with a lot of different platforms.

  • Full Landing Page builder. The landing page here allows you to customize your own landing page to collect emails or promote a product.

Cons

  • Not user friendly. MailChimp has a few templates but they are basic and can be hard to edit for first time users.

  • Sender Reputation. A lot of people are attracted to their free plan. This means email marketing newbies and spammers use the platform and send spammy emails. The email recipients will flag those emails as spam which affects MailChimp’s sender reputation and the sender reputation of anyone that uses Mailchimp. If you follow email marketing best practices and your emails are landing in the spam box, MailChimp’s sender reputation could be partly to blame.

  • Double counts subscribers. If you have one contact that subscribes to multiple lists, that person gets counted against your subscriber count each time they join a list.

Flodesk V. ConvertKit

ConvertKit is closer to being an email marketing software than some on this list but it does feature some marketing automation.

Pros

  • Cheaper than Flodesk for the first 1000 subscribers.

  • Coding available- if that’s your thing. Most people don’t like to code but if that’s a feature you want, you get it with ConvertKit.

Cons

  • Need 3rd party apps to increase useability of software.

  • Pricing changes increase automatically. That can lead to unexpected billing errors.

  • Manual cutomizations. You’ll have to add links and instagram to your emails

Flodesk V. Constant Contact

Constant Contact has been in the email marketing realm since 1995. Most people probably know of Constant Contact one way or the other. However, their longevity doesn’t mean that they have kept up with the times.

Pros

  • Platform integrations. They have a ton. You can plug a lot of features into Constant Contact to make it what you want. You can add anything from appointment schedulers to loyalty programs.

Cons

  • Clunky user interface. Some of their interface tools look and feel outdated.

  • Automations could use some help. The automations they offer aren’t as robust as you would expect for a brand that has been around as long as they have.

  • Constant Contact Branding. Their branding is going to be in all your emails. You can request to have it removed but your mileage may vary.

Flodesk V. ClickFunnels

ClickFunnels is a marketing automation platform that has email marketing features pretty well integrated into it. For the sake of comparison, if there were a PH scale of email marketing softwares where 1 was pure email marketing software and 14 was pure marketing automation software, Flodesk would be a 2 and ClickFunnels would be 13. They probably shouldn’t be on the same spectrum in reality, but it’s worth mentioning ClickFunnels because so many people use their platform.

Pros

  • The most robust. ClickFunnels could probably take over most of your software needs for your business. It has email marketing, a CRM, and you can integrate a lot of other tools as needed (ex. a calendar).

Cons

  • Price. ClickFunnels features are overkill for beginners and their pricing is overkill for small businesses. At $97/month you can determine for yourself if you want to use them. I love ClickFunnels but I would reserve it for businesses that hire agencies to run their marketing for them.

Email marketing is vital to convert your website vistors and social media followers into buyers. Make the choice that’s right for your business. If you need help marketing your business and reaching a wider audience, schedule a time to meet with the Coin & Copy team.
